Neovim is a text editor based on Vim, designed for simplified maintenance, increased extensibility, and multiple contributors. It features a discoverable, versioned, and documented API, with the ability to run remote plugins safely and asynchronously. It includes an AST-producing parsing engine for faster and more accurate syntax highlighting, code navigation, and refactoring. Neovim includes a built-in LSP client for semantic code inspection and refactoring with features such as "go-to definition" and formatting. It is fully compatible with Vim's editing model and Vimscript v1 and most Vim plugins. Neovim is available as pre-built packages for Windows, macOS, and Linux, with a CMake-based build system. Transitioning from Vim is made easy with instructions. Contributions to Neovim are licensed under the Apache 2.0 license, while Vim remains Charityware.
