openjpeg.org

OpenJPEG is an open-source JPEG 2000 codec written in C language. It promotes the use of JPEG 2000, a still-image compression standard from the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG). Anyone can use or modify the code, even for commercial applications, as the OpenJPEG code is released under the BSD 2-clause "Simplified" License. The library has been created and is still maintained by the Image and Signal Processing Group (ISPGroup), in the Université de Louvain (UCL). It currently benefits from funding from several academic institutions and archival organizations. OpenJPEG currently has several applications, including a basic codec and OpenJPIP applications. OpenJPEG strives to provide a stable API/ABI for applications and only exposes a limited subset of its functions. An API/ABI timeline is automatically updated on their website to keep users informed. Deprecated components, such as openjpwl and openjp3d, have been removed after the 2.4.0 release.
