v2
PCRE is a library of C functions that implement regular expression pattern matching using the same syntax as Perl 5. It has its own API and is free for use, even in proprietary software. PCRE was originally developed for Exim MTA but is now used in many projects such as Apache, PHP, and KDE. PCRE has two major versions: PCRE1 (v8.45), which is no longer actively maintained, and PCRE2 (v10.39), which was first released in 2015 and contains improvements in code structure and flexibility. Binaries for Windows and port for z/OS are available for download, as well as PCRE documentation and a summary of changes from third-party resources. The PCRE2 GitHub issues tracker is available to report issues and make feature requests. A mailing list for PCRE2 discussion also exists. Philip Hazel is the author of PCRE but website and repository issues are not his responsibility.
